Joel & Jeannie Huyser
A Vision Formed in Nicaragua
Joel and Jeannie have lived and ministered in Managua, Nicaragua, since 1996. In 1999, Joel helped found the Nehemiah Center. Currently, eight different international mission and development organizations work together as part of the Nehemiah Center. The Nehemiah Center identifies, encourages, and connects Christ-centered agents of change, equipping them with an integral Biblical worldview.
Joel served as the director of the Nehemiah Center until 2008. In 2008 he turned over leadership to a Nicaraguan Christian, Daniel Boniche. The story of the Nehemiah Center is told in the book On Mended Wings by Carol Van Klompenberg. The book can be ordered online at The Write Place.
Jeannie spent eight years teaching preschool at Nicaragua Christian Academy. She now works as a volunteer at Tesoros de Dios, translated as God’s Treasures, a ministry in Managua for special needs children and their families. Jeannie leads Bible studies for the mothers and teaches English as a second language to the staff.
Expanding the Vision to Other Countries and Continents
The vision of identifying, encouraging, connecting, and equipping local Christians leaders for the transformation of lives, communities and cultures has spread from the Nehemiah Center in Nicaragua to Seeds of a New Creation in El Salvador, and the Daniel Center in Abuja, Nigeria.
In addition to serving as CRWM field leader for Central America, Joel is actively involved in nurturing the development of new transformational networks in other parts of the world including Asia and Eastern Europe. His vision is for Gospel-shaped people and communities to join together in movements to make our global village a radically better place to live for everyone.
About Joel & Jeannie
Joel was a trial attorney in Grand Rapids, Michigan, before he joined CRWM in 1995. Joel and Jeannie have four children and five grandchildren.
