Vision
As the librarian at the International Christian School of Budapest (ICSB), my vision is to see the library become a vibrant place of learning and recreational reading. The library will be a place where students learn about their Creator and Creation through a variety of mediums. Inside and outside of the library it is my prayer that I can build relationships with the students and model for them what it means to have a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
Mission
My mission is to serve the students at the International Christian School of Budapest by providing them with library services, programs, and instruction. In particular, I would like to continue building relationships with students so I can show them how to research and evaluate information from a Christian perspective. In this way the library will become a place where students can grow both academically and spiritually.
Ministry in Hungary
Christian Reformed World Missions (CRWM) responded to the changes in Eastern Europe during the 1990s by sending Christian teachers to various schools in Hungary, Romania, and Ukraine.
Christianity was present in Hungary as early as 900 A.D. and the Reformed tradition in Hungary dates back to the 1500s when whole parishes and towns of the Magyar people embraced the teachings of John Calvin. Today, about three million people claim membership in the Hungarian Reformed Church. The Hungarian Reformed Church includes congregations in Hungary, Ukraine, Romania, Slovakia, and the former Yugoslavia and is divided into autonomous regional synods in each country.
Persecution of Protestants during the counter-reformation, harassment by the Nazis in World War II, and subsequent Communist rule damaged the prestigious Sárospatak Academy and other Christian schools affiliated with the church. These schools lost their Christian identity, functioning as state schools, during the country’s 40 years under Communist rule. Since 1990, some schools have been returned to and come under the direction of the churches. These schools’ greatest challenge is finding Christian teachers. CRWM now sees many young Hungarian Christians taking up this challenge.
Thank You
I praise God for His work around the world and the privilege of serving Him. Thank you for your prayers, generosity and support for my ministry with Christian Reformed World Missions. Together, by the grace of God, our efforts are transforming lives and communities worldwide. Thank you.
