Vision
We envision the CRCNA participating in missions throughout Guadalajara and Jalisco State with Presbyterian churches and other evangelical entities to see the Gospel of Jesus Christ proclaimed, healthy churches emerged, and the Kingdom of God advanced.
Mission
Our mission is to represent and lead CRCNA ministries in Guadalajara and Jalisco State, and to work alongside our national partners to witness to the Good News of God’s Kingdom, promote integral discipleship, and promote ministries that strengthen families, leaders, churches, and communities.
Ministry in Mexico
Ben and Amy Meyer and family have served in Guadalajara, Mexico’s second largest city with a population of over five million people, since 2004. Guadalajara is known as the cradle of Mexican culture because mariachi music, tequila, and the Mexican hat dance all originated here.
Ninety-five percent of Tapatíos (what people from Guadalajara call themselves) claim to be Roman Catholic, although only a minority of them practice their faith in any meaningful way. That strong minority, however, is firmly entrenched in its cult to a whole array of saints and virgins sadly perpetuated by the Roman Catholic Church itself.
Today, between 2%-3% percent of Guadalajara residents belong to an evangelical church, although many others without an official church affiliation self-identify as Christian. As of this writing (Nov. 2011), our ministry has two main thrusts:
- Working alongside the National Presbyterian Church of Mexico (NPCM) to plant and grow vibrant reformed churches in the city of Guadalajara. Since 1995 the NPCM in Guadalajara has grown from one church to about fifteen churches; however, many of them are still tiny “missions” or daughter churches. From 2005-2009 we planted the Christ the Savior Presbyterian Church. Since 2009 we have been part of the team ministry of Christ the Redeemer Presbyterian Church with a strong focus on church planting and leadership development.
- We also work as the Mexico coordinator for the Multiplication Network, a para-church ministry whose focus is: "More Churches, Stronger Churches." Our ministry with the Multiplication Network has us training church leaders in the Church of God and in the National Presbyterian Church of Mexico at a national level who then train church planters throughout many parts of Mexico. At this moment over 100 church planters are in the process of being trained (and planting churches at the same time).
Thank You
We praise God for His work around the world and the privilege of serving Him. Thank you for your prayers, generosity and support for our ministry with Christian Reformed World Missions. Together, by the grace of God, our efforts are transforming lives and communities worldwide. Thank you.
