Joel & Marilyn Van Dyke

Ministry in Guatemala
Guatemala City is the largest city in Central America. Several years ago it became our home and the ministry launching pad for training grassroots leaders throughout Central America and the Caribbean.
Our vision is to equip the church in Latin America to serve at-risk youth and families in hard places. We do this through our work with Estrategia de Transformación (EdT) (Strategy of Transformation). EdT is a strategic alliance between Christian Reformed World Missions and the Center for Transforming Mission. Joel is the director for EdT, while Marilyn does a variety of administrative functions in the ministry.
EdT believes that the key to reaching Latin America for Christ is through the body of Christ working together in holistic leadership development with emerging, grassroots leaders. EdT partners with strategic organizations in countries throughout Central America and the Caribbean in forming missional communities of grassroots leaders who work with the “least, last and the lost” of their respective nations. The long-term goal is to see our partners take what they’ve learned and multiply the training through denominations and geographical networks.
EdT is committed to developing strategic missional communities of grassroots leaders and offering accessible training that inspires and equips indigenous leaders to be agents of transformation in the context of chronic poverty and violence. The initiative is currently up and running in the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, and Nicaragua with strong interest from potential local partners in several other nations.
We are committed to a three-fold process of “training, sustaining and modeling.”
Training Street Psalms Conversations (a series of six courses), roundtable cohort groups, vision trips.
Sustaining Encouragement and formation of the leaders and partners that we serve which includes a suite of websites, regional/international consultations and the Street Psalms community
Modeling Demonstration projects such as gang - chaplaincy, street youth, etc., as well as internships and city mapping.
