Vision
After each year at Faith Academy, I am even more convinced that the school’s work is making a lasting difference - in the lives of the students we teach, the Philippines, and throughout Asia. Faith Academy exists to provide a high quality education to missionary children. At our annual flag-raising ceremony, the national flags of students from 22 different countries inspire awe. I count it a privilege to be a part of a community that cares not only for the academic formation of these children but also plays a role in developing their spiritual lives.
Mission
After serving in Faith Academy’s English department for a couple years, I became the school’s Director of the Secondary Library in 2010. I continue to work with middle and high school students, but with a more intense focus on literacy, developing lifelong readers, and aligning our library with the needs of 21st century learners. It is a blessing to walk with students and encourage them to seek after God.
Ministry Results in Philippines
I wish that you could sit down and look through my “Feel Good” plastic folder in the back of my desk drawer in my classroom. You would find notes of encouragement that I’ve received from parents and students, certificates of accomplishments that I have made during my time in the Philippines, and evidence of what my students have accomplished in the classroom. I treasure these pieces of stationary, certificates, and scraps of paper.
But there are things that don’t fit in that “Feel Good” folder. I can’t physically hold on to the elation of watching a group of senior boys challenging each other and underclassmen to pursue God with hearts on fire. I can’t fit in the 132,000+ pages that my Grade 7 students read after they accepted the challenge to make the next year the best reading year of their lives. I can’t contain the tears that flowed after having a student come to me saying thank you for allowing him to ask questions about his faith when it came to a reading in the book Silence. And I wouldn’t want to dirty things up with the mud that caked our kids after spending days out in the community cleaning up after Typhoon Ondoy.
Some of the pieces in my “Feel Good” folder are fleeting, measurable for only a short time. They are nothing compared to the Kingdom results that I see evidence of in my students.
Thank You
I praise God for His work around the world and the privilege of serving Him. Thank you for your prayers, generosity and support for my ministry with Christian Reformed World Missions. Together, by the grace of God, our efforts are transforming lives and communities worldwide. Thank you.
