Mission & Vision

Nicaragua Christian Academy (NCA) was founded in 1991 by three missionary families seeking a strong Christian education for their children. Today, NCA has over 295 students. It is the first school in Central America to be accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). In 2005, NCA opened its second school, NCA Nejapa. NCA Nejapa has over 320 students and offers Christian education of academic excellence in the Spanish language. In 2011, NCA purchased land to begin building its third school, NCA Matagalpa. All three of the schools include preschool through high school and are governed by a common school board. It is the mission of NCA to equip children with the spiritual discernment, the moral courage, and the academic excellence to impact society through Christian living motivated by a heartfelt love for God.

Ministry in Nicaragua

Dan is a part of the administrative team that oversees NCA and he also manages NCA’s child sponsorship program, which includes over 80 children. Lisa is involved in mentoring our children (Rebekah and Will) as well as Nicaragua Christian Academy teachers. This includes: meeting individually with teachers; facilitating a marriage group with Dan for married teachers; and leading a group of Nicaraguan, American, and Canadian teachers and parents in Bible Study. Lisa is passionate about inviting those in the States to journey with us as we share what God is doing in and through us by email and in our blog (www.vanzoest.blogspot.com). Please let us know if you would like to receive Lisa’s regular email updates.

About Dan & Lisa

God has been working in our lives and moving our hearts toward mission work for a number of years. Our calling became more specific in 2007 when God brought Nicaragua Christian Academy (NCA) to our attention. When we visited Nicaragua in 2008, we witnessed the poverty of many of the people and their need for strong, authentic, Christian leadership. We spent time with missionaries who trained Nicaraguan pastors and leaders, facilitated youth camps, ran orphanages, and led women and young girls to leave lives of prostitution. Many of the missionaries involved in these ministries either have children currently attending NCA or have children that graduated from NCA. It was also exciting to learn more about how NCA works to inspire and equip Nicaraguan children to develop Christ – centered leadership skills that will one day be used to impact their country. It is clear that Nicaragua Christian Academy is making a difference in the lives of both missionary children and the children of Nicaragua.
