VISION AND MISSION
God created. The world He made belongs to Him. We humans are stewards of this enormous creation. It’s our responsibility to communicate that in any area where we work. My mission involves writing courses for the extension department of UNELA.


UNELA (Evangelical University of the Americas) is a small Christian college located in San José, Costa Rica, with whom Christian Reformed World Missions (CRWM) partners. I am loaned by CRWM to work in its extension department.


When I began working in Costa Rica UNELA was a missiological institute and helped to train Latin American missionaries. Now this institute has become a college with the purpose of training young people who want to become more involved in church work or who want to become foreign missionaries or Christian professionals.

I’ve written courses that are introductions to the Old and New Testaments based on the mighty acts of God; others which include a Biblical theology of mission; twelve doctrines which are basic to our Christian faith; a church history which includes Protestantism in Latin America; church growth which stresses holistic growth; study, research, and writing skills; transcultural communication of the gospel; a history of cultures; and an investigation of mission based on “paradigm shifts” in the history of the church. I have also revised some of the courses written by other authors, and I continue to revise those which I’ve already written in order to take advantage of their field testing and new bibliography. At present I am writing an introductory course to the books of the Old Testament.

The courses I write are designed to meet the needs of a Christian liberal arts college. What I produce can be used by the extension department as correspondence or Internet courses, or be adapted for tutoring or the formal classroom. I not only write, but am occupied in the administration of the extension department. Administration involves designing the courses so that they are attractive to the students, obtaining permission to reproduce the readings of other authors, putting courses on the Internet, and teaching them online.

I hope to continue to write courses and teach them online. It is my prayer that God will use these courses to help train missionaries, pastors, other church workers, and to prepare Christian professionals who are aware of God's lordship in every area of life and our stewardship as humans in His creation.
